Overview: The kingdom of Marae (mah-ray) is, along with Hallius and Orynth, the last of the governing bodies defined by the treaty of Oth Dumar. Marae has recovered well since the ravages of the Orc-Goblin Wars and some argue that it has surpassed its prior beauty in spite of constant raids from Irlghik. The kingdom is currently ruled by the young but strong willed Selene Oceanstrider, who like every ruler before her can trace her lineage back to Constance of Veneri.
Marae is the only kingdom in Faylia that has no open borders with wild or uncivilized areas. Its eastern border is shared with Edar, its southern border with Ruthgar, its north and northeastern border with Irlghik and its western and southwestern borders with Zabrek and the Sea of Enet, respectively. Stonewall became the capital after the Orc-Goblin wars to protect the normally sea-going kingdom from further incursions. It has become the Plain of Marae’s more drab and grey version of Perdon, the shining capital city of Orynth, although its production and liveliness is just as great.
Because of its peaceful relations with the rest of its neighboring kingdoms, Marae’s standing army is almost exclusively stationed either outside Fort Orcguard, patrolling its border with Irlghik or guarding and training at Stonewall. While the army is large out of necessity, Marae also boasts the largest and most well equipped navy among the domains of Faylia. It had been dormant for many years until the recent prevalence of pirates and privateers operating from Tyr prompted the Maraen government to refurbish and recomission most of the vessels in order to combat these new threats.
